It is already Corpo de Deus, a day when Catholics around the world take time to celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Blessed Sacrament — the Body and Blood of Christ, a feast which precedes the celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus requested of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque 350 years ago in a June 1675 apparition in France.
The annual elevation of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ was celebrated in Portugal last Thursday, a National Holiday for many, beginning at 10 o'clock, with the solemn Holy Mass led by Padre Avelino in the Mother Church and that included the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament that continued at 15:30, when the Church sang with Padre Nuno Rocha in Latin the liturgical hymn of thanksgiving — “Te Deum” followed by an annual 16:00 procession down the Rua de Igreja through Rua do Visconde, then to Almada Square where the Blessed Sacrament stopped at City Hall for a Solemn Blessing then another opportunity for public adoration with the recitation of the prayers taught by the Angel of Portugal. (Note: Our longer video is currently unavailable for the next while due to technical difficulties. Thank you for your prayers).
2025 Procession: Corpus Christi
Joining the procession was the Civil and Military Authorities of the municipality and the Musical Band as they continued a four hundred-year-old tradition begun by the Confraternity of the Most Blessed Sacrament at the Parish of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in the Archdiocese of Braga.
This ceremony providentially follows one full week of Adoration in honour of the 100th Anniversary of the 2nd Eucharistic conference in the Archdiocese — hosted by Pe Nuno at the Church of Our Lady of Lapa as presented in the following video on our YouTube Channel.
Padre Avelino noted the importance of taking time to remember this Eucharistic Congress anniversary in his sermon, and then he invited citizens to process for one hour with the Blessed Sacrament accompanied by young first communicants — a growing tradition in modern parishes around the world thanks to the Eucharistic Revival movements, especially publicised through North America, Ireland and Ecuador, etc. Just nine days prior to this event, the country of Portugal also celebrated the June 10 Solemn Feast of the Angel of Portugal who appeared in 1915 / 1916 to St. Jacinta, St. Francisco, and St. Lúcia in Valinhos a country village about 5 km walk from the Chapel of the Apparitions at the Sanctuary of Fatima, and where he taught them to develop profound reverence with which our modern culture can and should approach Holy Communion — with a literal prostration and demonstration of humble adoration even lower than on one’s knees!
This reparative act of adoration was recently outlined in a sermon by Mons. Father Rossetti during his popular talk at the All-Ireland Rosary Rally where he taught thousands at Knock Shrine and around the world about the realities of demonic activity in our times. (As an exorcist, he insists on weekly confession for himself and seconds the practice that emerges from becoming a devotee who honors First Friday and First Saturday — thus recommending monthly confession as basic reparation upkeep prior to receiving the Real Presence as a reparative Holy Communion.)

CHURCH OF RATES on HISTORIC PORTUGUESE CAMINO
The Historic Church in Rates, PdV is decorated in the early hours of Thursday morning, embellished with long meters of flowers as carpets, a tradition completed by the inhabitants of the various streets and the parish. The flower carpets assigned were prepared for hours prior to the Eucharistic procession — assembling artistic displays on the streets to greet the members of the processions. This Portuguese tradition attracts hundreds of believers every year on Corpo de Deus. The Solemn Mass which also invited Camino travellers passing through was celebrated 16h00 at the Romanesque Church, followed by the procession.
