ETERNAL WISDOM — First Friday Devotion & Golden Arrow Prayer

“In 1843, Our Lord appeared to Sister Marie of St. Peter, a holy Carmelite Nun in Tours, France and asked her to spread the devotion to His Most Holy Face and Holy Name, as He was greatly sorrowed by blasphemy and by the profanation of Sunday by our work and failure to go to Mass. In 1885, Pope Leo XIII established this devotion as an archconfraternity; and contrary to custom, immediately established it for the entire world.  This was a favorite devotion of St. Therese of Lisieux, and she was so devoted to the Holy Face that she added the title to her name at the time she took the habit: St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face.”

Let us pray: “May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most mysterious and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on earth and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the altar. Amen.”

Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque: “I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant to those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in My disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.”

SENDING OUR PRAYERS

Our team has been thinking of so many people who have written to us of late, specifically to ask for intercessory prayers, and we wanted to let them know that those requests have not been forgotten.

3

We’ve been asking for the specific assistance of Beata Maria Lucia of Fátima and Beata Alexandrina da Costa of Balasar, St. Padre Pio, St. Joseph, as well as Venerable Fr. Patrick Peyton and St. Michael for their intercession. Please be assured of our prayers.

CP’s MUSINGS ON MIRACLES

Last night, on the eve of her birthday, my daughter read to me from what is now one of her favorite books — the stories of St. Padre Pio entitled Padre Pio: Glimpse Into the Miraculous.

Listening to the amazing stories about San Giovanni Rotondo — like the time when St. Pio bilocated to celebrate mass for sisters in a convent in Czechoslovakia or when he delivered to Cardinal Mindszenty “everything he needed to celebrate mass” in Budapest (Cateneo 91) when he was trapped in a building, these histories about Pio’s miraculous travels —- he was a great mystic and Saint from Italy — made me rediscover again how much I needed to hear more hopeful reminders that miracles do matter.

While sitting on multicoloured Adirondack chairs on the edge of a snow squalled beach juxtaposed against white swans, brown sand and a bright turquoise sky, my writing mentor reflected back in April, after listening to my thoughts and backstory regarding Fr. Anthony’s ideas about building a podcast on the Rosary:

“Christine, I think that the world is ready to believe again that miracles are possible”.

And that was the first time I felt encouraged to ask people about miracles and to interview them about the questions I didn’t have the ability to answer with the theological competence Venerable Fulton Sheen has asked us to have if we are to tell others about “the hope” in us.

Speaking of asking about miracles … we hope you enjoyed visiting with Donna Marie Cooper O’Boyle at the Digital Café.

If you missed our last post, here’s a quick recap: Donna-Marie is an important voice in the world: her books, talks and retreats are well-known to millions and have transformed so many lives. Friend to Mother Teresa of Calcutta for 10 years, Donna-Marie was recently featured on EWTN’s WOMEN OF GRACE show this past week as a regular returning guest.

Yet, with all her busy writing deadlines and guest appearances, she has blessed our group with her continued guidance since April 2022. Just last week, she stopped everything to assist Our Lady — helping us ensure we got the message of the Miraculous Medal out to any souls who might rely on an extra reminder of the graces of this medal and this powerful devotion and by the Feast days on November 27/28 (Feast of St. Catherine Labouré].

That Miraculous Medal video was a long awaited conversation which we had been planning since Spring 2022. [Click here to listen to her explanation].

To contextualize Donna-Marie’s discussion with Dr. Bailey on this sacramental, we added Fr. Looney’s Theology 101: “What is a Miracle?” and we invite you to review his four minute video [CLICK here].

And since we’ve been asking about Marian apparitions in Fátima and France lately, we decided to share Father Anthony’s conversation with us about Marian Apparitions in his latest 101.

Fr. Anthony answers our underlying question: “Why does Our Lady want us to pray the Rosary?” We hope you’ll enjoy that conversation segment here as much as we did. [CLICK TO WATCH THE LIVE RECORD].

EXTRAS: EXTENDED FOOTNOTES for FIRST EDITION [FOR EDITION #2]

PRAYER EXPLANATION REPOSTED FROM: https://padrepioministry.org/wounds-of-christ-prayers/

2

The question which might confuse those arriving at this podcast for the first time and which we posted in the “Eternal Wisdom” segment as a citation has to do with eternity. Please listen to our talk, “What is Eternity” with Cardinal Collins to begin to explore the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on First Friday.

Cardinal Collins also discusses this at length in his document on The Sacred Heart of Jesus published by the Archdiocese of Toronto. https://www.archtoronto.org/siteassets/media/archdiocese-of-toronto-main-site/files/sacred-heart-of-jesus/sacred-heart-pastoral-letter.pdf.

This original Digital Café conversation is our inquiry into the essential question of our faith: “What is eternity?” In her apparition to the children of Medjugorje, Our Lady says that if we knew what eternity was, we’d do everything in our power to change our lives.

In this video, we explore the word “Eternal” from the OED, and also a short discussion on De Lubac’s point that we must live out our Faith to avoid it turning into “the enemy of life.” De Lubac warns of what St. John speaks of in the Gospel reading for Dec. 3. A sermon that outlines what this means is located here, and the work of the Holy Spirit as a means by which we are drawn into the life of Divinity and transform into new beings by allowing Christ to be born in our hearts:

3

On behalf of our team, we’d like to thank our readers and subscribers for their prayers for us as we slowly build this humble little podcast to teach others about the Rosary for Our Lady. Thank you for assisting us in finding ways to nurture this tiny mustard seed for the Mother of God.

4

If you are reading this, please say a little prayer for our growing team who is now working on a special project for visitors on the Camino to Santiago in the Porto region in Portugal for Advent 2022. We are excited about this new initiative as an evolution of our Digital Toolkit for Rosary Leaders which we began to develop back in January 2022 while we were finding a way to teach children how to pray the Rosary. This is an exciting Heritage & Culture initiative and collaboration, which we’ll tell you more about soon as we enter 2023. Do let us know if you will be visiting the Camino for Christmas in 2022.
