ROSARY ON THE CAMINO | A MAGAZINE JOURNAL
NOTES ON PRAYER FOR HOLY SOULS |
by: DR. BLYTHE KAUFMAN, Founder of Children’s Rosary
We would like to humbly invite those involved with the Children's Rosary ® to pray a Rosary (or decade of the Rosary) in the month of November for all the deceased members of the Children's Rosary ® and all those who are deceased who have helped with or participated in the Children's Rosary ® in any way. Children and families can also take the opportunity to pray for those in their families who have passed and to adopt a family to pray for and/or pray for those who have no one to pray for them.
AN INVITATION TO PRAYER FROM DR. BLYTHE KAUFMAN | GUEST AUTHOR
We would like to invite Children's Rosary / Children’s led Rosary groups / Rosary Groups to make it an annual tradition, if possible, to assemble a Balloon Rosary in honour of this special month in the liturgical year.
Once completed, the balloons can be used to pray the Rosary as a group, or with the community.
We suggest that the Balloon Rosary be tethered so it does not cause aviation interference: it also allows for those to enjoy the beauty of the Balloon Rosary for the full day.
STEP #1: YOU WILL NEED 15 WHITE BALLOONS for the OUR FATHERS
STEP 2: YOU WILL NEED 53 BLUE BALLOONS for the HAIL MARYS
THINGS YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS ROSARY PROJECT:
Double-sided tape was used to connect the balloons. Useful tools include:
String
Scissors
The balloons
People to help you hold the balloons!
Intention for the use of the balloons
to create awareness
i.e. About the Rosary and/or teach what is it?
i.e. About Holy Souls: Who are they?
To develop this project, students can collect a list of those souls they are praying for, making time to think about those who have died (as well as those in need of prayers); those involved might create an intention box for this Balloon Rosary and/or have people sponsor a balloon with an intention to make the construction of this Rosary an even more meaningful activity and “spiritual bouquet” for Heaven.
Pictures depicted in the slides are from members of the Children's Rosary in Pakistan, Connecticut, USA, and Porto, Portugal.
ROSARY | SPOTLIGHT ON PAKISTAN in ASIA
For those unable to make a Balloon Rosary, please take time on November 2 to pray the Rosary, especially for the intention above in bold and for the Holy Souls.

Susan Tassone’s latest book: New Friends Now and Forever: A Story About the Holy Souls is now available through the EWTN Catalogue and teaches to children the above prayer:
Susan Tassone has written 10 books on Purgatory and helped with the film about Purgatory distributed by ShopMercy.org (The National Shrine of the Divine Mercy).
She explains in this book that she wishes to share who the Church Suffering are in the Mystical Body of Christ. She reminds that while there are many books for adults on purgatory, there aren’t any written for children. After speaking with Susan for a short ad hoc interview to plan a future conversation, she spoke of the importance of finding ways to visualize heaven in her book. See below for a friendly chat.
Best-selling, award-winning author and renowned “Purgatory Lady” delivers the first children’s picture book about our friends the holy souls. New Friends Now and Forever is the delightful story of twins Ben and Hope, who become “prayer pals” with Mr. Ray, an elderly friend from their parish. They agree to pray for each other and to help him pray for his departed wife. Along the way, Hope and Ben learn that purgatory is real and that it is nothing to fear because it is a special way God shows His love for us. And the best part? The children learn that the power of their prayers helps the faithful departed reach heaven and that those souls will intercede for them, becoming their “forever friends.” With vibrant illustrations by Yorris Handoko, New Friends Now and Forever beautifully expresses the rich traditions, signs, and symbols of our Faith. It has been granted an Imprimatur, so you can be sure it is true to the teachings of the Catholic Faith. Special features include:
An important message for adults, encouraging them to teach children about purgatory.
Seek-and-Find activities.Special prayers for the holy souls in purgatory.
Help the children in your life realize the power – and the joy – that comes with praying for the holy souls in purgatory.
Susan Tassone is the author of 14 books and has spent more than 25 years helping millions of Catholics storm heaven with prayers to release the souls in purgatory. In her passion for this holy work, she now turns to children and provides a much-needed resource for strong catechesis on this important doctrine of the Faith. New Friends Now and Forever: A Story about the Holy Souls is an age-appropriate and engaging book for children ages 6-10.

When we pray the Rosary for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, we are enabling their capacity to make a journey beyond the stagnancy of death. In that sense, the Church Suffering depends upon us to pray for them.
Jesus explains this reality to Nicodemus:
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]
In this first passage, Jesus addresses the rebirth of the Spirit, lost at death, but recovered by His body and His blood.
MEMBER OF CHILDREN’S ROSARY, AMELIA, recommends the following video: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/son-of-man/
9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.
10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[e] 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”[g]
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Jesus then reveals His identity to Nicodemus. He addresses God’s love for us through the sacrifice of “his one and only Son” so that “whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We asked Cardinal Collins what is “eternity” and his answer here describes the eschatology of the fate of the soul:
The Gospel continues:
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
Eternal Rest: The Art of Dying Well
Programme on FORMED.
Authors of this show write:
We all have very real questions about death. What happens when we die? What does Scripture teach about death? How do we prepare for the life to come? Explore the mystery of death, dying, and everlasting life through Eternal Rest, a new offering of the Augustine Institute.
Eternal Rest examines the origin of death, the afterlife, and the powerful reality around the sacrament that ushers us into eternal life. Eternal Rest presents the Catholic Church’s teaching about death and God’s response to it with wisdom and truth, gentleness and compassion, so we can think about and prepare for death in the light of Jesus Christ, the Author of life.
We pray that through Eternal Rest, God may give you greater peace, solace, and perspective.
In addition to watching the film series, visit EternalRest.org for practical resources, including 60+ videos of experts answering common questions about end-of-life medical care, funerals, legal documents, grief, and more.

The Eternal Rest program is composed of the following sessions:
Session 1: The Story of Death
Where did death come from? What does death mean for the human person? Is it simply just part of life, or is it something else? In this first session, we discuss the story of death and God’s response to it: defeating death by dying and rising from the dead.

Session 2: The Afterlife
What happens after the moment of our death? Once the soul has been separated from the body, then what? What is the judgment? What is the difference between the particular judgment and the general judgment? What is heaven, hell, and purgatory? This session looks at the truth about what awaits the human person on the other side of death.

Session 3: The Hour of Our Death
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven sacraments of the Church. But whom exactly is this sacrament for? What are its effects? In this session, we take a closer look at this beautiful sacrament and discover the role of this sacramental anointing in the spiritual struggle during serious illness, in the final stages of our temporal life, and at the hour of our death.

Session 4: The Faithful Departed
What is left for the living to do after someone dies? In this session, we talk about the final ways in which those still living on earth care for the body and soul of the dead. We discuss the work that remains for the living to do as we grieve for the deceased and as we turn to the work of preparing for our own death, and the hope in which we live and die as Christians.
