Ce n'est pas proprement la longueur, mais la ferveur de la prière, qui plaît à Dieu et qui lui gagne le coeur. Un seul Ave Maria bien dit est d'un plus grand mérite que cent cinquante mal dits. Presque tous les chrétiens catholiques récitent le Rosaire, le chapelet ou du moins quelques dizaines d'Ave. Pourquoi donc y en a-t-il si peu qui se corrigent de leurs péchés et s'avancent dans la vertu, sinon parce qu'ils ne font pas ces prières comme il faut?
"These people honour me with their lips, but their heart is far from me" (Mark 7:6).
It is not the length, but the fervour of prayer, which pleases God and wins His heart. A single Hail Mary well-said is of greater merit than a hundred and fifty badly said. Most Christian Catholics recite the Rosary, the chaplet or at least a few decades of the Ave. Why is it that there are so few who correct themselves from their sins and advance themselves in virtue, if not because they do not say these prayers as they must?
Não é a duração, mas o fervor da oração, que agrada a Deus e conquista o seu coração. Uma única Avé Maria bem dita é de maior mérito do que cento e cinquenta mal ditas. A maioria dos católicos cristãos recita o terço, o terço ou, pelo menos, algumas décadas da Ave. Por que é que há tão poucos que se corrigem de seus pecados e avançam em virtude, se não porque eles não fazem essas orações como deveriam?
