ABOUT THIS VIDEO SEGMENT, by: DR. TINA BAILEY
Dr. Bailey sat down with St. Augustine’s Seminary Professor, Dr. Josephine Lombardi to discuss the importance of the First Apparition and message at Fátima in the Cova da Iria on 13 May.
This posting marks the 2nd year anniversary of the release of Josephine's film, The First Lady and Her Successors, which captures women's connection to Mary at different stages of life and helps deepen our understanding of the Blessed Virgin Mary's life through the Mysteries of the Rosary. Here is the Trailer and the full movie can be watched on her website: https://josephinelombardi.com.
Our Lady's appearance to three shepherd children near Fátima reminds us of the power of a child’s prayers, as well as the importance of turning to Our Lady's example of faith and courage in trying times. The Blessed Virgin Mary's complete Trust in God and the example of her faith in action can inspire us to give our hearts to her in complete devotion.
SHORT BOOK TALK: LOMBARDI ON BEING AN EXPERT IN HUMANITY
Josephine has also written about exploring our hearts, while seeking healing, in her book Experts in Humanity; likewise, Our Lady of Fátima asks for us to offer our prayers, regardless of our imperfect hearts, and gives us the courage to approach God's grace with the prayer of the Holy Rosary.

LESSON 2: LEARN TO PRAY THE “HAIL MARY” IN PORTUGUESE w/ Pe. Nuno Rocha (Portugal)
Ever wondered how to offer a Rosary in Portuguese when on pilgrimage?
Millions of pilgrims visit the Chapel of the Apparitions in Fátima, Portugal each year.
To assist your future Marian pilgrimage in 2023, etc. The Rosary Hour Podcast team (Porto, Portugal) invited Pe. Nuno, head of CPM, to assist in helping others around the world to pray the Holy Rosary.
For this upcoming set of videos, Pe. Nuno curated the script of the prayer sequence one might expect to experience when visiting the Chapel of the Apparitions in Fátima, which varies from the Rosary in English. He also added other additional Rosary prayers his congregation prays, as the Rosary is recited 30-45 minutes before every single mass at S. José Ribamar, on the Atlantic coast of Portugal.3
NOTE: A new website with Padre Nuno’s local "Digital Toolkit for Rosary Leaders in Portuguese" will follow when catechist team has completed the edits. For now, click here and/or subscribe below for updates.
ABOUT the Chapel of the Apparitions, Fátima
According to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima: (https://fatima.pt)
The chapel of the Apparitions is the "heart" of the Shrine of Fatima.
It was in the place of the Chapel that our Lady talked to the little shepherds. Out of the six apparitions of the Virgin Mary, five of them happened in this place – May, June, July, September and October – where, by the Lady’s indication, a chapel in her honour was to be constructed. Built between April 28 and June 15, 1919, it was later blessed, having Mass been celebrated there for the first time on October 13, 1921. Dynamited in the morning of March 6, 1922, it was restored and reopened on January 13, 1923.
Though it was subjected to minor changes, the little
Chapel of the Apparitions
maintains the original traits, which are characteristic of a popular hermitage. The current porch was inaugurated during the first visit of John Paul II to the Shrine of Fatima, on the 12th and 13th of May 1982. During the Marian Year, in 1988, the ceiling was lined with pinewood, from northern Siberia, a wood chosen for its lightness and durability. The plinth where the statue of Our Lady lies marks the site where the small holm oak on which the Lady of the Rosary appeared used to be.
The Chapel’s organ was built by the organ maker Gerhard Grenzing. It has twelve records and two manual keyboards and pedal. Dedicated almost exclusively to the accompaniment of the celebrations, it allows, thanks to its particularly cared timbres, the interpretation of sacred repertoire works in a liturgical framework.
The summer Rosary / Mass schedule at the Chapel / Basilica announces the prayer of the Rosary at least 5-6 times daily — also Livestreamed here & here:

WHEN IN PORTUGAL:
A “CONVITE” to LEARN THE HAIL MARY IN PORTUGUESE w/ PADRE NUNO VIA THE ROSARY HOUR PODCAST, DIGITAL CAFÉ
To pray the Rosary in Fátima, Portugal requires knowing at least the second half of the Hail Mary in Portuguese.
Thus, our podcast team has a special invitation to our listeners in Part 2 of this video.
After reviewing Dr. Lombardi’s excellent overview of what we are celebrating on the Feast of Our Lady of Fátima — keep listen to the next segment.
In this short sequence, Pe. Nuno to teach our readers how to pray the “Hail Mary” in Portuguese on the Feast of Our Lady of Fátima, just as St. Jacinta, St. Francisco, Beata Lúcia did. He repeats this 3 times and this segment occurs at the end of the Rosary in Portugal where three Avé Marias are recited to pray for the Intentions of the Pope. When you visit Portugal, you will notice that many people traditionally stand up at this part of the Rosary to recite these prayers before proceeding to the Consecration to Our Lady and then the Litany to Nossa Senhora.
Here are the transcript words from this video’s subtitles provided by the RHP team:
LEITOR: (X10)
AVÉ MARIA, cheia de graça, o Senhor é convosco. Bendita sois Vós entre as mulheres, e bendito é o fruto de Vosso ventre, Jesus.
TODOS:
Santa Maria, Mãe de Deus,

agora e na hora de nossa morte. Ámen.
