[Exclusive] Doctor Fr. Matthew Schneider, LC explains the logic behind a 'Sensory Friendly Mass' + See the Full Episode Launch of Session #3 on the Digital Café [Interview by: Sherri & Tina]

Sherri Marcotte and Dr. Tina Bailey met with Fr. Matthew to discuss strategies for accommodating those with sensory issues to comfortably attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Sunday, July 24, 2022: [8:30 p.m. PST]: 2nd Edition

GUEST CONTRIBUTOR: FATHER MATTHEW SCHNEIDER (USA)

Families or households with members living with disabilities of all types can meet with various struggles when it comes to attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Father Matthew Schneider’s above video helps parishes with identifying the basic steps for implementing a quiet or ‘Sensory Friendly Mass’, an option which can be explained via the Church bulletin, weekend announcements, or other electronic communications.

Learning from Father Matthew: “ON THE SENSORY FRIENDLY MASS”1

For this chosen Mass accommodation, a parish in a diocese may have the ability to:

  • Dim lights to 50-75% ;

  • Offer acoustic music (no microphones / no sound system) and/or no music at all;

  • Offer visual aids to make a liturgy more sensory-friendly;

  • Help parishioners to understand the reasons why some visitors / members of the parish need to wear sunglasses, earbuds, or noise-cancelling earphones / headphones to regulate sound / light intake, i.e. due to visual / auditory health issues.

  • It is our hope that this podcast session will help to answer any related inquiries.
