BARTOLO LONGO ONCE SAID: Just as two friends, frequently in each other's company, tend to develop similar habits", he wrote, "so too, by holding familiar converse with Jesus and the Blessed Virgin, by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary and by living the same life in Holy Communion, we can become, to the extent of our lowliness, similar to them and can learn from these supreme models a life of humility, poverty, hiddenness, patience and perfection". On Thursday, October 26, the closing ceremony of the Longhian Jubilee Year (1 October 2022 – 31 October 2023), proclaimed by the Prelature on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Bartolo Longo's arrival in the Valley of Pompeii, will be held. The rite was presided over by the Archbishop of Pompeii, Msgr. Tommaso Caputo. In this year, the Marian city has experienced a special time made up of meetings, in-depth studies, prayer and celebrations, which has involved all ecclesial and civil realities. The rite, in the presence of the Mayor and other authorities, will begin at 4 p.m., at the Stele in Via Arpaia, the place "where it all began". In this point of the Valley, Bartolo Longo had the inner illumination that radically changed his life, giving life to the Sanctuary, the Works of Charity and the new city. Si terrà giovedì 26 ottobre, la cerimonia di chiusura dell’Anno Giubilare Longhiano (1° ottobre 2022 – 31 ottobre 2023), indetto dalla Prelatura in occasione del 150° anniversario dell’arrivo di Bartolo Longo a Valle di Pompei. A presiedere il rito, l’Arcivescovo di Pompei, Mons. Tommaso Caputo. In questo anno, la città mariana ha vissuto un tempo speciale fatto di incontri, approfondimenti, preghiera e celebrazioni, che ha coinvolto tutte le realtà ecclesiali e civili. NOTE: On this occasion, the new bronze door at the entrance to the right aisle of the Marian Basilica will be blessed.
Dedicated to Blessed Bartolo Longo and his founding and evangelizing mission, the door is made up of panels depicting the salient scenes of his life. The work was created by Don Battista Marello, priest and artist.
At the end of the rite, the Holy Mass will be presided over at 7 p.m. by Monsignor Caputo who, at the end of the celebration, will deliver the Rosary and the Pastoral Letter written at the conclusion of the Longhian Year to some representatives of the ecclesial community. It will be possible to obtain the Plenary Indulgence for the Longhian Jubilee Year, by visiting the Shrine and under the usual conditions, until 31 October.

My brothers and sisters, a few months ago, we were on Marian pilgrimage in Europe, and one of the places we visited was in Pompeii, Italy. |
Pompeii is where Mt. Vesuvius erupted (circa 80-90 AD) or so, and the event completely wiped out the entire city. But there, right next to it in the town, there is a magnificent shrine that was built by Blessed Bartolo Longo.
When we arrived there, we were in a bit of a rush to appreciate the huge, magnificent shrine. Though we were overwhelmed by the beauty, we had to go quickly to look for the chapel where I was to say the Holy Mass.
When we finally found the chapel, we rushed in, prepared ourselves, and then began the mass. The altar was on top of the tomb of this Blessed Bartolo Longo. But I had never heard of him before. So, at the end of the mass, afterwards, we had a bit of time to kind of wander around, and it was then that I started to learn a little bit about this gentlemen, this blessed.
