Rosary in Portuguese with Padre Nuno for World Youth Day 2023: NossaSenhora.substack.com + RHP "Greetings in Portuguese 101" (Google Doc for quick download)
Prepare youth leaders with "RHP reformat" (to support Spiritual Directors) of post from JMJ / WYD Lisbon discussing the very useful "SPIRITUALITY OF THE WEEK" notes.
ETERNAL WISDOM
«Vós sois o sal da terra...Vós sois a luz do mundo» (Mt 5,13-14)
"A new century, a new millennium are opening in the light of Christ. But not everyone can see this light. Ours is the wonderful and demanding task of becoming its ‘reflection’" (No. 54).
«Começa um novo século e um novo milénio sob a luz de Cristo. Nem todos, porém, vêem esta luz. A nós cabe a tarefa maravilhosa e exigente de ser o seu "reflexo"» (n.º 54).
ENGLISH: Yes, now is the time for mission!
In your Dioceses and parishes, in your movements, associations and communities, Christ is calling you. The Church welcomes you and wishes to be your home and your school of communion and prayer. Study the Word of God and let it enlighten your minds and hearts. Draw strength from the sacramental grace of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Visit the Lord in that "heart to heart" contact that is Eucharistic Adoration. Day after day, you will receive new energy to help you to bring comfort to the suffering and peace to the world. Many people are wounded by life: they are excluded from economic progress, and are without a home, a family, a job; there are people who are lost in a world of false illusions, or have abandoned all hope. By contemplating the light radiant on the face of the Risen Christ, you will learn to live as
"children of the light and children of the day" (1 Th 5:5)
, and in this way you will show that"the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true" (Eph 5:9).

THE ROSARY HOUR PODCAST NEWSLETTER [1st EDITION]
julho 31 | 31 July — Pre-World Youth Day, Lisbon 2023 Musings by the RHP Team
A collaborative article edited by: Izzy Nunziato & Karen Rocha
Many news outlets have been capturing various sides to the upcoming World Youth Day 2023 festivities occurring from August 1-6.
Whether portraying the touristy side of visiting Portugal in advance of this meeting for Catholic Youth, or capturing this week’s various outdoor gatherings in the lead-up to August 1 opening ceremonies, there is portrayed a buzz of excitement in Portugal as JMJ (a.k.a. Jornada Mundial da Juventude) commences tomorrow.
Of John Paul II, “the founder of this powerful meeting of young people from across the globe with the pope”, CNA news notes that even JP2 will be at World Youth Day (JMJ) “in a special way”:
“Participants in WYD2023 will be able to pray next to relics of St. John Paul II along with relics of St. Mary Magdalene, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Teresa of Calcutta, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, and Blessed Carlo Acutis.”1
Amid the extensive list of “what to expect” for World Youth Day, and beyond the enthusiasm many youth share to pray with Pope Francis, the Holy Father, leaders in the Catholic community have insisted upon finding yet new ways of reframing the ‘brand’ of World Youth Day so as to make it an even richer opportunity this time around to advance meaningful youth formation in their Catholic roots. The hope is that this meeting will inspire a desire among young Catholics to rediscover by praying together en masse the “why” behind their prayers.
Today, the JMJ Portugal site posted a useful “Spirituality of the Week” with a “Spirituality Itinerary” which notes:
“Pilgrims are invited to live the spirituality of the week of WYD Lisbon 2023 through a journey inspired by the Gospel of the
Visitation of Our Lady
to St Elizabeth. Each day, a word is proposed that will set the tone for all prayers and events.”
Here is the overview of the reflections arising from each word / phrase (reformatted below with bullets by the RHP TEAM to support Spiritual Directors):

“Get ready”
Sunday, July 30: Day to arrive, settle down and prepare for the beginning of the week.
Where do I come from?
Who do I come with?
Where am I heading?
On this day, I begin to enter the WYD environment. Wherever I am, I have my heart and I recognize the importance of being part of this great whole.
“[Get] Set”
Monday, July 31: Day to open the doors of my heart, to listen to what God asks of me in this WYD.
What might God want to say to me this week?
Today I choose to open the doors of my heart, with freedom and readiness. I dissolve the barriers that prevent me from being true to an encounter with God and with others.
“Go”
Tuesday, August 1: Day to get up, to start again.
Who am I and how do I come to this WYD?
What do I bring and what am I looking for?
In these days, I start to draw my path here – I choose conferences, concerts, theaters, exhibitions, volunteering, whatever makes me move the most.
Challenge: Get to know and find out curiosities
2about 2 people of different nationalities.
“Hurry”
Wednesday, August 2: “Day to get off the couch, comfort zone”.
Am I looking for Jesus in a hurry?
Where can I find him in this WYD?
Today I actively participate in what the day has to offer. I become aware of the presence of the living Christ, I look for what makes me hurry and what prevents me from leaving more quickly.
Challenge: Hurry finding Jesus and visit Him at a Church.
“Rejoice”
Thursday, August 3: Day to discover the joy of being a Christian.
Is being a Christian a source of joy?
Does it change my life? As?
On this day, I think about how the Faith materializes in my life – what implications does it have? How does my attitude towards the other change? Do I live happily?
Challenge: Share with someone what made you the happiest today.
“Believe”
Friday, August 4: Day to enter Faith, not to stay at the door.
Do I open the doors to Christ?
Do I let him in? Am I scared? [If so, f]rom what?
Today I want to learn how to open the door to Jesus, without restrictions. What makes me afraid to believe? What am I afraid will change in my life?
Challenge: Pray for someone you know who doesn't believe in God.
“Give Thanks”
Saturday, August 5: Day to thank what God does for me.
Do I recognize and thank the graces that come to me from God?
On this day, I want to learn to pray, to give thanks, to remain silent at Jesus' feet. I keep Him company and thank you for everything I've experienced.Challenge: Hug the one who made the most difference in your life for the testimony given during this week and pray for them.
“Rise up”
Sunday, August 6: Day to prepare to change life.
After WYD Lisbon 2023, what remains?
How do I transform my life?
Today I finish as I started – I get up and rise again with new life.
I recognize that I am a missionary, called to bring the good news to everyone.
Challenge: Share your experience in this WYD with 2 people who have not lived it.
