Today, we celebrate October the 7th: the Feast of the Holy Rosary. There is a History behind this, which goes back to the intervention of the Blessed Virgin Mary during a very critical moment in history, and through the prayers of the Faithful, who were praying this simple, humble profound prayer, disaster was averted.
Now, much can be said about that historical moment, but I think we can get lost in the reality of the deeper meaning of the Feast.
The Holy Rosary is a gift from God. The Lord Himself wants us to pray the Rosary.
Why?

Hoje, celebramos o dia 7 de outubro: a Festa do Santo Rosário. Há uma História por detrás disto, que remonta à intervenção da Bem-aventurada Virgem Maria num momento muito crítico da história, e através das orações dos fiéis, que rezavam esta oração simples, humilde e profunda, evitou-se o desastre.
Agora, muito pode ser dito sobre esse momento histórico, mas acho que podemos nos perder na realidade do significado mais profundo da Festa.
O Santo Rosário é um dom de Deus.
O próprio Senhor quer que rezemos o terço.
Porquê?
The Rosary is a meditation on the life of Jesus Christ: on salvation history — so everything that God did for us, and through us and what he wants to continue to do through His Church, and what our ultimate destiny is — always accompanied with Mary — with the Blessed Virgin. And she who is the pre-eminent disciple, she is the one that can help us to draw more deeply from each of the mysteries which we contemplate every day. She helps us to understand, again, the multiple layers of meaning and how everything, ultimately, is rooted in the love for God.
See, during the Second Vatican Council, which was a good council, and then afterwards, what happen was that many people were starting to put things aside. There were many many things.
O Rosário é uma meditação sobre a vida de Jesus Cristo: sobre a história da salvação – portanto, tudo o que Deus fez por nós, e através de nós e o que Ele quer continuar a fazer através da Sua Igreja, e qual é o nosso destino final – sempre acompanhado de Maria – com a Santíssima Virgem (Nossa Senhora). E Ela, que é a discípula proeminente, é aquela que pode ajudar-nos a aprofundar cada um dos mistérios que contemplamos todos os dias.
Ela ajuda-nos a compreender, mais uma vez, as múltiplas camadas de significado e como tudo, em última análise, está enraizado no amor a Deus.
Veja, durante o Concílio Vaticano II, que foi um bom concílio, e depois, o que aconteceu foi que muitas pessoas estavam começando a deixar as coisas de lado. Havia muitas, muitas coisas.
And this was because the culture, in general people wanted “progress” (they wanted to move forward) without any understanding of history, and, unfortunately, there were many arrogant people within the Church who tossed aside Adoration and tossed aside the Rosary, and said those are for children.
For the mature, for the “true” spiritual men and women, we no longer find these things useful.
And then, of course, we see that those who actually had that attitude did nothing but harm to the Church and their own spiritual lives and to that of many people.
So thank God, over the years, and it is because of the people of God, the humble beautiful people who recognize what it means to be a Christian — are the ones who have preserved these important spiritual traditions.
E isto porque a cultura, em geral, as pessoas queriam "progresso" (queriam avançar) sem qualquer compreensão da história, e infelizmente havia muitas pessoas arrogantes dentro da Igreja que jogavam de lado a Adoração e jogavam de lado o Terço, e diziam que eram para crianças.
Para os maduros, para os "verdadeiros" homens e mulheres espirituais, já não achamos estas coisas úteis. E então, é claro, vemos que aqueles que realmente tiveram essa atitude não fizeram nada além de prejudicar a Igreja e sua própria vida espiritual e a de muitas pessoas.
Então, graças a Deus, ao longo dos anos, e é por causa do povo de Deus, as pessoas humildes e bonitas que reconhecem o que significa ser Cristão – são as que preservaram essas importantes tradições espirituais.
And the Rosary is incredibly powerful.
You know, I gave you one example of Blessed Bartolo Longo last weekend.
But there are many examples where the Rosary, when it is prayed with faith, [obtains] many graces from Heaven.
Why?
Because if we pray and trust and God, we said, the Lord listens to the poor. The poor aren’t people who don’t have money in the bank. You can have a lot of money in the bank and still be poor.
Why?

Spiritual Poverty is what we pray for during the “Third Joyful Mystery”. What does that mean?
Well, it means that I recognize that everything is a gift from God, and I recognize that I am nothing without God. That’s spiritual poverty, and that means that I look upwards to God, and I ask the Lord to give me everything necessary. (It’s not to insult those who have money.) That’s not what its about: that is what true spiritual poverty is, and God wants all of us to be spiritually poor, so we recognize everything is a gift from Him, and we receive it with gratitude, especially on this weekend of Thanksgiving.
So, we ask the Blessed Mary to help us recognize the importance of this beautiful prayer, to keep the Rosary on our person … right … not as an amulet.
A pobreza espiritual é o que rezamos durante o "Terceiro Mistério Gozosos". O que é que isso significa?
Bem, isso significa que reconheço que tudo é um dom de Deus, e reconheço que não sou nada sem Deus. Isso é pobreza espiritual, e isso significa que eu olho para Deus e peço ao Senhor que me dê tudo o que for necessário. (Não é insultar quem tem dinheiro.) If everyone who had a Rosary on their car hanging from their car (mirror) — came to mass, I would have to say about 20 masses on Sunday, and we wouldn’t be able to do it. Most of the cars I see on the road have Rosaries, which is good, that’s fine … so long as you pray the Rosary… but if you just have the Rosary there, because you think the Virgin Mary is going to protect you (of course she wants to protect you — she loves everyone), but she will love us even more if we actually love her Son even more, and the Rosary is an exercise to help us love God more deeply.
Se todos os que tinham um terço no carro pendurado no carro (espelho) viessem à missa, eu teria que dizer cerca de 20 missas no domingo, e não conseguiríamos fazê-lo. A maioria dos carros que vejo na estrada tem terços, o que é bom, tudo bem... enquanto rezares o terço... mas se você só tem o Terço lá, porque você acha que a Virgem Maria vai protegê-lo (é claro que ela quer protegê-lo — ela ama a todos), mas ela vai nos amar ainda mais se realmente amarmos seu Filho ainda mais, e o Terço é um exercício para nos ajudar a amar a Deus mais profundamente.

NOTE: This procession features almost 80-100+ children above and beyond the dozens who are part of the various confraternities who volunteered their time to be part of this presentation, each of their parents supporting them to get dressed in Heavenly costumes as early as 9 a.m. and then proceeding this morning, Oct. 8 to the procession that is 1.45 hours in length and circles all the main streets in this famous Camino to Santiago town on this hot October day. ONE MILLION CHILDREN PRAYING THE ROSARY
The “One million children praying the Rosary” initiative traces its origins to 2005 when a group of children was praying the rosary at a wayside shrine in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas and several of those present recalled the words of Padre Pio: “When one million children pray the rosary, the world will change”. The campaign quickly spread around the world.
