ETERNAL WISDOM
NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP
O Mother of Perpetual Help, grant that I may ever invoke your most powerful name, which is the safeguard of the living and the salvation of the dying.
O Purest Mary, O Sweetest Mary, let thy name henceforth be ever on my lips.
Delay not, O Blessed Lady, to help me whenever I call on you, for, in all my needs, in all my temptations I shall never cease to call on you, ever repeating thy sacred name, Mary, Mary.
O what consolation, what sweetness, what confidence, what emotion fill my soul when I pronounce your sacred name, or even only think of you.
I thank God for having given you, for my good, so sweet, so powerful, so lovely a name.
But I will not be content with merely pronouncing your name: let my love for you prompt me ever to hail you,
Mother of Perpetual Help.
Amen.1Mention your request and recite three Hail Marys or Pray the Holy Rosary.

. . . she is our Mother in the order of grace
967 By her complete adherence to the Father's will, to his Son's redemptive work, and to every prompting of the Holy Spirit, the Virgin Mary is the Church's model of faith and charity. Thus she is a "preeminent and . . . wholly unique member of the Church"; indeed, she is the "exemplary realization" (typus)508 of the Church.
968 Her role in relation to the Church and to all humanity goes still further. "In a wholly singular way she cooperated by her obedience, faith, hope, and burning charity in the Saviour's work of restoring supernatural life to souls. For this reason she is a mother to us in the order of grace."509
969 "This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfilment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation .... Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix.

[PORTUGUESE] ... ELA É NOSSA MÃE NA ORDEM DA GRAÇA

The National Shrine states:
June 27 is the feast day of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, who is known for miracles and answers to prayer. It is associated with a 15th-century Byzantine icon of the Madonna and Child, which is copied in mosaic in the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel in the Basilica.
History of the Devotion
The tradition of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is traced back to 1495. Stolen from a Cretan monastery by a wine merchant a few years after its creation, it was brought to the church of St. Matthew in Rome. For 300 years, it resided at the church, and even survived the church’s destruction by Napoleon’s army in 1798.
88 years later, Pope Pius IX gave the icon to the Redemptorist congregation at the Church of Saint Alphonsus, where it remains today.

RHP: QUICK ANNOTATIONS for ABOVE VIDEO PRESENTATION:
This video was created by Fr. Chris Alar, previous guest to The Rosary Hour Podcast & narrator for The Rosary: A Mini Series. He recorded this Live Talk for “Explaining the Face” 5 months ago for 1 January, 2023.
In this presentation, Fr. Chris talks about the nature of Jesus within the context of his “Divine Essence” or “Godness”
We consider this teaching in a special way today as we recall the great defender of the nature of Jesus Christ, St. Cyril of Alexandria, Bishop and Doctor.
When Jesus became a man, Fr. Chris explains, He was “then was born of a woman, and assumed a human nature” (the “whatness”, termed by Fr. Chris).
When Mary gave birth, she gave birth to a person who was Divine, which he explains “is why we can call Mary the
Mother of God”:
i.e. He is “One person”, “two natures”: “human” and “divine”
Fr. Chris ends his first segment: “Thus, we have the ‘Godman’…”
He identifies objections used to deny Our Lady’s Motherhood to Jesus; he asks the question, “what happens if we deny that Mary is the Mother of God”. Fr. Alar then explores this point in the context of the Trinity.
Fr. Chris then makes reference to Article 495 in the Catechism, cited here below:
ENGLISH: THEOTOKOS
495 Called in the Gospels "the mother of Jesus", Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth, at the prompting of the Spirit and even before the birth of her son, as "the mother of my Lord".144 In fact, the One whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father's eternal Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the Church confesses that Mary is truly "Mother of God" (Theotokos).
Fr. Chris references a video by: John MacArthur: MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD? Of note, just a few points:
Fr. Alar cites the internet which isolates this speaker as a foremost scholar on the Bible in North America.
Fr. Chris responds to claims made in this video by isolating the arguments of MacArthur and analyzing them within the context of Church teaching on the Motherhood of Mary.
The video notes how various fallacies in certain arguments with regards to Our Lady can result from certain general conclusions that limit the fullness of one’s understanding about Our Lady (whether consciously or unconsciously) and which evade the full resonance & guidance of authentic Church teaching.
Fr. Chris proceeds to give examples whereby the speaker makes certain premises with a number of claims, i.e. sentences, one of which concludes: “Catholics teach you do not need to go to Jesus”. Fr. Chris explores ways of assessing the Truth of such arguments, and comments on how one might better approach the limits of those arguments, while also pointing out ways to rediscover why Our Lady, [The Blessed Virgin Mary], “helps us to get to Jesus”. This point may be helpful for those who might struggle to understand the efficacious nature of the prayer of the Holy Rosary, for example, and its Biblical foundation.
II. O culto à Santíssima Virgem
