ETERNAL WISDOM
The Armor of God:
[10] Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. [11] Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. [12] For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. [13] Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. [14] Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, [15] and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. [16] In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. [17] Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.1 (Ephesians 6:10-17)
A armadura dos cristãos
[10] Finalmente, sejam fortes no Senhor e no seu grande poder.

THE STORY of OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
To help prepare this document, I started reading more about the story of Our Lady of Mount Carmel about a month ago.
First, I found a book called Journeys with Mary by Zerlina De Santis published by Pauline Books & Media, Boston, MA in 2001.
(I love ♥️ this book!)
Before talking about Our Lady, and how she appeared to St. Simon Stock, the author writes about how the Carmelite hermits followed Elijah, “who lived on Mt. Carmel” and “spent his days in prayer and penance” (Chapter 1, pg. 13). The book also tells about the hermits who built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady.
Zerlina de Santis then tells the story of an Englishman, Simon Stock, who lived in Cambridge, England and “was impressed by the hermits’ way of life” (pg. 14).
She describes why he was “very troubled about the future of the Carmelite Order” (pg. 15), and how on July 15th, 1251 he was praying at night — and then, the next morning, a bright light entered that room. Tradition narrates that it was July 16th when the Blessed Virgin “surrounded by many angels” appeared to St. Simon Stock (pg. 17) and gave him the scapular as a “badge of salvation”. Finally, the book explains that: “The vision of the Virgin Mary consoled and strengthened Simon” (pg. 17).
THE BROWN SCAPULAR TODAY
To this day, many people receive a replica (a copy) of the original scapular given to St. Simon Stock by Our Lady.
To be invested in the scapular, the faithful must participate in the rite and blessing led by a priest. Here is the document which includes the materials for:
I. Opening Rite
II. Reading of the Word of God (OT / NT)
III. Intercessions
IV. Prayer of Petition (optional starting point for brief ceremony)
V. The Holy Rite and Blessing of the Scapular
VI. The Enrolment in the Scapular
VII. The Closing Rite

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us!
Until next time.

p.s. here is the “THE FLOS CARMELI” attributed to St. Simon Stock
Flos Carmeli | Canto Gregoriano | Gregorian Chant - Listen here for the chant:
WORDS:
FLOWER of Carmel, Tall vine blossom laden;
Splendor of heaven, Childbearing yet maiden.
None equals thee.
Mother so tender, Who no man didst know,
On Carmel's children Thy favours bestow.
Star of the Sea. Strong stem of Jesse, Who bore one bright flower,
Be ever near us
And guard us each hour,
who serve thee here.
Purest of lilies, that flowers among thorns,
Bring help to the true heart
That in weakness turns and trusts in thee.
Strongest of armour, We trust in thy might:
Under thy mantle, Hard press'd in the fight,
we call to thee.
Our way uncertain, Surrounded by foes, Unfailing counsel
You give to those who turn to thee.
O gentle Mother Who in Carmel reigns,
Share with your servants That gladness you gained and now enjoy.
Hail, Gate of Heaven, With glory now crowned,
Bring us to safety Where thy Son is found, true joy to see. Amen. (Alleluia.)

FOOTNOTES
PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS FOR SCAPULAR DEVOTION:
1. The blessing of the Scapular of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel & its investiture “should preferably take place within a community celebration” (iBreviary).
2. “The enrolment of the Scapular by a priest implies one’s automatic affiliation to the Carmelite Family”. Pope Pius XII further notes:
“All Carmelites, whether they live in the cloisters of the First or Second Orders or are members of the Third Order or of the Confraternities, belong to the same family of our Most Blessed Mother and are attached to it by a special bond of love. May they all see in this keepsake of the Virgin herself a mirror of humility and purity; may they read in the very simplicity of the Garment a concise lesson in modesty and simplicity; above all, may they behold in this same Garment, which they wear day and night, the eloquent expressive symbol of their prayers for divine assistance.”
“Priests and deacons have the faculties for blessing Scapulars; other authorized persons may enrol the faithful.”
3. “The traditional form of the Scapular must be used for the blessing and enrolment. It may then be replaced by the appropriate medal.” (iBreviary)
4. The blessing of & enrolment of the Faithful in the Scapular takes place according to the rites and prayers outlined in the samples linked to this post. It is important that the text be approved by the priest conducting the rite and according to the priest’s Spiritual Direction.
** WE RECOMMEND INSERTING PRAYER OF FIVE DECADES OF THE HOLY ROSARY ** [Before / after the Investiture] Here is a video for support:
iBreviary notes that, “In this manner the meaning of the Scapular in the lives of the faithful who receive it is fully conveyed.”
5. Further, “It is necessary that in both formulas, the spiritual meaning of the graces attached to the Scapular of our Lady of Mount Carmel be expressed, as also the obligations assumed through this sign of devotion to the holy Virgin.”
The RHP curated document for Pastors includes for all readers a helpful “SAMPLE transcript” for pastors and team to edit as is useful for the Devotion.
