Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes:
- Starts 3rd February
- Ends 11th February
HISTORY: “Jeudi 11 février 1858 : la première rencontre”
Première apparition. (The First Apparition)
Accompagnée de sa sœur et d’une amie, Bernadette se rend à Massabielle, le long du Gave, pour ramasser des os et du bois mort. (Accompanied by her sister and by a friend, Bernadette went to Massabielle, along the Gave, to collect some bones and some dead wood.)
Enlevant ses bas pour traverser le ruisseau et aller dans la Grotte, elle entend un bruit qui ressemblait à un coup de vent, elle lève la tête vers la Grotte : (Taking off her stockings to cross the stream and go into the Grotto, St. Bernadette heard a noise that resembled a gust of wind, she looked up at the Grotto:
“J’aperçus une dame vêtue de blanc: elle portait une robe blanche, un voile blanc également, une ceinture bleue et une rose jaune sur chaque pied.”
"I had the impression of a lady dressed in white: she wore a white dress, a white veil also, a blue sash and a yellow rose on each foot."
“Bernadette fait le signe de la croix et récite le chapelet avec la Dame. La prière terminée, la Dame disparaît brusquement.”
"Bernadette makes the sign of the cross and recites the Rosary with the Lady. When the prayer is over, the Lady suddenly disappears."

PRAYER FROM the SANCTUARY WEBSITE TO UNITE IN PRAYER
Blessed Virgin Mary, under your tutelage, Bernadette entered into a relationship with the Holy Trinity through the sign of the Cross. By teaching her prayer and penance for sinners, you showed her the joy of salvation.
You revealed to her the beauty of your most pure heart when you told her, “I am the Immaculate Conception”. With Bernadette, we turn to you full of trust in your maternal intercession. Accept the intentions that we carry in our hearts during this novena of prayer (especially for…)
Our Lady of Lourdes, we pray to you especially for our own conversion and that of all sinners. Watch over all those who suffer in body or soul.
In the hope that Life will triumph over death, we want to sing with you, here and now, the glory of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!1
PRAYER INTENTIONS CAN BE LEFT via the SANCTUARY with E-MAIL INFO HERE:
Readers of the RHP Newsletter are encouraged to Pray 5 decades of the Holy Rosary throughout the novena.

XXXII WORLD DAY OF THE SICK
The theme chosen by Pope Francis for the XXXII World Day of the Sick is:
“It is not good for man to be alone”.
Healing the sick by healing their relationships.
The Pope reminds:
“we came into the world because someone welcomed us; we were made for love; and we are called to communion and fraternity. This aspect of our lives is what sustains us, above all at times of illness and vulnerability. It is also the first course of treatment that we must all adopt in order to heal the diseases of the society in which we live.”
On this World Day of the Sick, Lourdes welcomes pilgrims from all over the world to experience a time of fellowship and not to be alone, for “it is not good for man to be alone” (Gen. 1:18).
ON VISITS TO THE SHRINE
“Shrines are special places, where the holy faithful people of God gather to pray, to be consoled and to look to the future with greater confidence.”
(Pope Francis 2nd International Meeting of Rectors and Agents of Shrines)
The Sanctuary of Lourdes invites you to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes at the Grotto of Massabielle. Thousands of pilgrims are expected to gather to celebrate and pray to Our Lady of Lourdes. Come and experience this wonderful festival in a place where the sick are always at the forefront.
In this year, when the Church is calling for a year of prayer to prepare for the Jubilee of 2025, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes would like to help all those who come into the Sanctuary to embark on “pilgrimages of prayer”; to set out on a journey to follow Christ and put into practice the theme that the Sanctuary is proposing to pilgrims for 2024: “that they come here in procession ”.

MODEL FOR FIRST FRIDAYS AT THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE DIVINE MERCY
Today’s First Saturday event will be on the same YouTube Channel at 11 AM EST with a devotion that begins at 11:45 AM. Fr. Chris Alar began this effort in 2021 January during the pandemic and the whole world participated in these devotions. Father Chris has often instructed our team that First Fridays and First Saturdays are the most powerful means through which we might transform the reality of the world today and bring Heaven to others. If you have the ability to implement a Rosary on these days once a month, please use our resources from theholyrosary.substack.com and here is the Digital Toolkit for the Joyful Mysteries which Fr. Elias prays in one decade from yesterday’s post.
If you can make the time, go to First Saturday Devotion and/or take time to pray the Rosary at a Chapel today before the tabernacle.
Finally, if you the ability, here is a sample intention the can be read from the ambo or inserted into the Saturday morning intentions so that all parishioners can pray for the intentions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in reparation for all sins committed against her Immaculate Heart. These words can be easily added by the person announcing the morning mass. Here is a sample from holyrosary.ca in Toronto, Canada posted weekly and published as an invitation to prayerful reparation since October 2021:

REFLECT ON JOY TODAY when you pray the JOYFUL MYSTERIES WITH FR. NUNO ROCHA (NEW TRANSLATION)
QUESTION 1: Why is joy important?
“Joy is something that comes upon us, is born to us or that comes to us through a well-perfected life. This well-perfected life can only be achieved by putting on the mantle of true joy. To this end, we must be faithful to what we are.”
