ETERNAL WISDOM
Prayer for Good Humor
by St. Thomas More
Grant me, O Lord, good digestion, and also something to digest.
Grant me a healthy body, and the necessary good humor to maintain it.
Grant me a simple soul that knows to treasure all that is good
and that doesn’t frighten easily at the sight of evil,
but rather finds the means to put things back in their place.
Give me a soul that knows not boredom, grumblings, sighs and laments,
nor excess of stress, because of that obstructing thing called “I.”
Grant me, O Lord, a sense of good humor. Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke to discover in life a bit of joy, and to be able to share it with others.
E SANCTI TOMAE MORI, JOÃO PAULO PP. II)“In this context, it is helpful to turn to the example of Saint Thomas More, who distinguished himself by his constant fidelity to legitimate authority and institutions precisely in his intention to serve not power but the supreme ideal of justice. His life teaches us that government is above all an exercise of virtue. Unwavering in this rigorous moral stance, this English statesman placed his own public activity at the service of the person, especially if that person was weak or poor; he dealt with social controversies with a superb sense of fairness; he was vigorously committed to favouring and defending the family; he supported the all-round education of the young. His profound detachment from honours and wealth, his serene and joyful humility, his balanced knowledge of human nature and of the vanity of success, his certainty of judgement rooted in faith: these all gave him that confident inner strength that sustained him in adversity and in the face of death. His sanctity shone forth in his martyrdom, but it had been prepared by an entire life of work devoted to God and neighbour.” (APOSTOLIC LETTER ISSUED MOTU PROPRIO PROCLAIMING SAINT THOMAS MORE PATRON OF STATESMEN AND POLITICIANS - CLICK TO READ, POPE JOHN PAUL II)
THE ROSARY HOUR PODCAST NEWSLETTER [22 JUNE 2023, 2nd Edition]
A NOTE FROM CHILDREN’S ROSARY ® MEMBER, AMELIA:
Dear readers of the
The Rosary Hour Podcast Newsletter:
I hope you are having a great summer.
I am biking, swimming, etc. and it is lots of fun.
For today’s post, I would like to tell you more about St. Thomas More.
“NOTES ON ST. THOMAS MORE: AN RHP LEARNING RESOURCE GUIDE”.
PRAYERS: DIVINE OFFICE
Today I prayed the Divine Office because on Solemnities and Memorials, I try to pray the Morning Prayer or the Evening Prayer to learn about the Saints in the Liturgical Calendar and to ask for their intercession.
Then, I learned all about St. Thomas More1 from the the Office of Readings which includes a “letter written in prison to his daughter, Margaret”.
BOOKS: ENCOUNTER THE SAINTS SERIES
I love the ENCOUNTER THE SAINTS SERIES put together by the Pauline Sisters who I go to visit when ever I can.
Try reading this book published by Pauline Books and Media. It is written by: Sister Susan Helen Wallace about St. Thomas More: Courage, Conscience, and the King.
FIND THE BOOK at their website HERE: https://paulinestore.com/st-thomas-more-courage-conscience-king-encounter-the-saints-s-3390-168249.html
VIDEOS ON ST. THOMAS MORE
The above video was created by EWTN and is it part of the “My Catholic Family” series.
This series is fun and educational for young children who want to learn about the Saints. In this episode, the family depicted goes on a trip to the lake; there they learn the story of St. Thomas More — i.e. his date-of-birth, his marriage, etc. The boys in the story are going to create a presentation at school, but the ‘bullies’ get in their way with their ‘‘tricks’’. Parents can watch this cartoon with their children to find out more.
Oh, and here is the Psalm that the video states St. Thomas More prayed before the moment he was martyred:

NCREGISTER says it was Psalm 31?

“Then kneeling, he repeated the Miserere Psalm with much Devotion; and, rising up the Executioner asked him Forgiveness. He kissed him, and said, Pick up thy Spirits, Man, and be not afraid to do thine Office; my Neck is very short, take heed therefore thou strike not awry for having thine Honesty.”
MORE VIDEOS ABOUT ST. THOMAS MORE: WATCH “FORMED”
FORMED WRITES: “The Renaissance was an age of discovery and innovation during which many lost their way amidst bold new visions of secular happiness. Thomas More was one of the greatest humanists of his age but also a man devoted to the spiritual life. His lifetime of learning, charity, and service to the public good of England enabled him to stand a patient and holy witness—and one of the greatest of modern martyrs—against the tyranny of Henry VIII.”
ST. JOHN FISHER, BISHOP and MARTYR:
