ETERNAL WISDOM
“O my God and my Father, may I know you and make you known; love you and make you loved; serve you and make you served; praise you and make all creatures praise you. Grant, my Father, that all sinners be converted, all the just persevere in grace, and all of us attain to eternal glory. Amen.” (St. Anthony Mary Claret)

To those who are called, to those who are dear to God the Father and kept safe for Jesus Christ: we wish you all mercy and peace and love!
On October 24, we recall St. Anthony Mary Claret1 who gave to the Church an important definition of the missionary:
“A Son of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a man on fire with love, who spreads its flames wherever he goes. He desires mightily and strives by all means possible to set the whole world on fire with God’s love. Nothing daunts him; he delights in privations, welcomes work, embraces sacrifices, smiles at slander, and rejoices in suffering. His only concern is how he can best follow Jesus Christ and imitate Him in working, suffering, and striving constantly and single-mindedly for the greater glory of God and the salvation of souls.”

DILEXIT NOS
“Create in me a clean heart, O God.” (Psalm 51:10)
The Church witnesses today a prophetic publication that is also an important missionary text now available as of this morning on the Vatican’s website:
Pope Francis’s latest encyclical “Dilexit Nos” contextualizes the important story of the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the lives of the Saints (i.e. St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Francis de Sales, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, St. Claude de la Colombière, St. Charles de Foucauld, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, etc.).
This timely letter provides a helpful ‘starter’ guide for apostles, the living apostolates of our times, to embrace this rich opportunity to deepen and develop our understanding of the Divine Love of Christ and the footnotes provide opportunities for intertextual reading for those new to reading a theological text.

SUPPLEMENTAL READINGS ON THE SACRED HEART
In addition, we invite you to re-read the Pastoral Letter by His Eminence, Cardinal Thomas Christopher Collins, Emeritus Archbishop of Toronto and founding Eschatological Spiritual Director of the Rosary Hour Podcast on the Spirituality and devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Based on our interview with Cardinal Collins in 2022, a year after the publication of this letter, he taught us about the “why” of his focus on the Sacred Heart of Jesus as well as his understanding of the authors he references, including Dietrich von Hildebrand and his book The Heart: An Analysis of Human and Divine Affectivity. Read in English here: “Heart Speaks to Heart”
Also, readers might reread the ENCYCLICAL LETTER OF POPE PIUS XII, HAURIETIS AQUAS, “ON DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART” (May 15, 1956). https://www.vatican.va/content/pius-xii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xii_enc_15051956_haurietis-aquas.html
Finally, we invite you to re-discover the writings of St. Claude de la Columbière, perfect friend and Spiritual Director to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque:
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto thine.

“DE PROFUNDIS”
AN INVITATION TO NINE DAYS OF PRAYER FOR
THE HOLY SOULS w/ FR. THADDAEUS LANCTON, MIC
October 24th also marks Day 82 of 90 — a nine-day countdown to the end of Fr. Thad’s Second Season of his 90 DAYS FOR HOLY SOULS podcast.
By way of review, we have all enjoyed participating in Fr. Thad’s online programme geared at developing sanctity. Anyone can find great benefits from learning from this unique Spiritual Direction style podcast with its focus on reading short relevant passages from the CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church) which Fr. Thad who discusses in brief videos, yet illuminates each point in depth. This podcast complements our Season 3 focus on the essential question: “What is holiness?” and its focus on Holy Souls also demonstrates and models the manner by which parents, Godparents, school teachers might help us grow in our love for God in preparation for what awaits us:
“Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen” (Luke 24: 5, 6).
In providing a podcast that increases our understanding of the catechism, Fr. Thad helps all listeners tend to the mysteries of our Catholic Faith in regards to our “State of Salvation” with even more conviction than we did 82 days ago.
St. John Henry Newman once noted the idea that we must go beyond “mere acceptance of God” and escape from the “ignorance of what sin is and what sin is not” (pg. 56, XIII, “The State of Salvation” in Volume 5 of the “Parochial and Plain Sermons”). For Newman, we must heed the words of St. Paul to the Philippians:
“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13)
for
“God is in you for righteousness, for sanctification, for redemption, through the Spirit of His Son and you must use His influences, His operations, not as your own (God forbid!), not as you would use your own mind as your own limbs, irreverently, but as. His presence in you.
All your knowledge is from Him; all good thoughts are from him; all power to pray is from Him; your Baptism is from Him; the consecrated elements are from Him; your growth in holiness is from Him.
You are not your own, you have been bought with a price, and a mysterious power is working in you.
Oh that we felt all this as well as were convinced of it!
This then is one of the first elements of Christian knowledge and a Christian spirit, to refer all that is good in us, all that we have of spiritual life and righteousness, to Christ, our Saviour; to believe that He works in us, or, to put the same thing more pointedly, to believe that saving truth, life, light, and holiness are not of us, though they must be in us.”
(pg. 42, “Righteousness not of us, but in us”, also in Volume 5 of the “Parochial and Plain Sermons”)

In many ways, this podcast combats the attitude amplified through the catechesis of the media, which promotes an overtly lukewarm and morally grey approach to the formation of conscience. If you are unable to spare the time for this novena, we ask that you pray each day for those completing the final part of Fr. Thad’s 90 days for Souls in Purgatory.
Should you feel called to join in this last 9 days, simply go to divinemercyplus.org.

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECITING THE HUNDRED REQUIEM for 9-days: OCTOBER 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, NOVEMBER 1 for HOLY SOULS
A. Fr. Thad explains that you need a normal Rosary with five decades;
&
B. He notes that you will “go around” the 50 Rosary beads twice to complete the 100 Requiem.
BEGIN at the Centrepiece of the Rosary Beads:
100 Requiem for the Souls in Purgatory
a. Recite one “Our Father”
b. Recite one “Hail Mary”
c. Recite one “Glory Be”.
Next, pray one decade of Requiem:
start on the small Rosary beads, which would be the “Hail Mary” beads, recite ten times the following words:
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and fill their souls with splendor”
Then, on the large bead (a.k.a. the “Our Father” bead), recite the following words:
“Holy Souls, Suffering Souls, pray to God for us,
as we intercede for you that He grant you the glory of Paradise.
Eternal Father, I offer you the Blood, Passion, and Death of Jesus Christ,
the Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin and of St. Joseph,
for the remission of our sins,
the freedom of the souls in Purgatory,
and the conversion of sinners. Amen”
After completing the 10 decades, you will finish the 100 Requiem segment and now can pray the “De Profundis” a.k.a. Psalm 129/1303
Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
If thou, O Lord, mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it?
For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord.
My soul hath relied on his word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.
Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
Let us pray.
O God, Creator and Redeemer of all mankind, grant to the souls of your servants the remission of their sins, that they may obtain – through our humble prayers – the purification they desire. You who live and reign, forever and ever. Amen.4
Fr. Thad asks we say:
“May the souls of the faithful departed
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.”
If you decide to pray or sing the Douay-Rheims Bible in Latin, see the text here:
De profundis clamavi ad te Domine
Domine exaudi vocem meam. Fiant aures tuae intendentes in vocem deprecationis meae.
Si iniquitates observaveris, Domine, Domine, quis sustinebit?
Quia apud te propitiatio est; et propter legem tuam sustinui te, Domine.
Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus: speravit anima mea in Domino.
A custodia matutina usque ad noctem, speret Israël in Domino.
Quia apud Dominum misericordia, et copiosa apud eum redemptio.
Et ipse redimet Israël ex omnibus iniquitatibus eius.SING HERE:
AT LAST:
END THE HUNDRED REQUIEM with the SIGN OF THE HOLY CROSS:
+ In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

90 DAYS FOR THE SOULS IN PURGATORY
by: FR. THADDAEUS LANCTON, MIC
JUMP TO DAY 79: “For those who neglected the means for continued conversion.”
JUMP TO DAY 78:
This video prays “For those who failed to observe the season and days of penance”. This includes Fridays. In this video, Fr. Thad encourages us to deepen our sacrifice on these days, every Friday. Some sacrifices might include going to Holy Mass or praying the Rosary, or praying the Chaplet at 3 p.m. There are many ways to make Friday a day of penance. If you have ideas, leave a comment by clicking on the yellow box below.
JUMP TO DAY 77:
Pray for those who failed to perform interior penance. In this Day 77 video, Fr. Thad focuses on paragraph 1430 of the Catechism. In this video, he speaks of “interior conversion”, including fasting, and allowing the Holy Spirit to engage and convert our hearts. The hard part, Fr. Thad considers, “is the Spiritual work of re-examining our lives”. Exterior penance becomes a doorway for our hearts to receive the grace of the Holy Spirit and be transformed. He encourages that we need to take time of the heart (a different rhythm / slowness to enter into our depths). He challenges to ask: “What time do we give to our Spirit on Sundays to work freely in our hearts?” He emphasizes that “Interior penance gives us opportunity for sanctification.” So, let’s pray the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy for the souls in Purgatory who failed to perform interior penance.

DAY 76:
In this Day 76 video, Fr. Thad asks us to “PRAY FOR THOSE WHO NEGLECT THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION”, and we intercede with paragraph 1422 and 1445 of Catechism. He notes that “There is no substitute for confession and the grace God offers in this sacrament.” He reminds us that the grace requires contrition and Fr. Thad invites to pray the Chaplet for this group of souls. If you have time today, pray the 100 Requiem as outlined above, or link here for Fr. Thad’s outline:

Out of the depths I call to you, Lord;
Lord, hear my cry!
May your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
If you, Lord, keep account of sins,
Lord, who can stand?
But with you is forgiveness
and so you are revered.
I wait for the Lord,
my soul waits
and I hope for his word.
My soul looks for the Lord
more than sentinels for daybreak.
More than sentinels for daybreak,
let Israel hope in the Lord,
For with the Lord is mercy,
with him is plenteous redemption,
And he will redeem Israel
from all its sins.
