“The Heavens Declare the Glory of God:

How Faith Illuminates Philosophy and Science”

DATE: February 1, 2024 1

TIME: 7 pm

VENUE: The Parish Auditorium at St. Peter’s Church

ADDRESS: 840 Bathurst Street | TORONTO, ONTARIO

Science and Philosophy are two important disciplines which help us understand the universe in which we inhabit. They do not, however, impart an adequate understanding of the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, something which religion alone can bestow.

Using the analogy of a mountain, Fr. Turrone will provide a framework, grounded in our Catholic faith, for discerning both the usefulness and limitations of both science and philosophy, reflecting upon how this knowledge is meant to shape our lives for the better.

ABOUT FR. PETER TURRONE

Fr. Turrone graduated from the University of Toronto with a PhD in Medical Science and Neuroscience, specializing in psychiatry, after which he entered the Consolata Missionary Institute Seminary. He completed a degree in Philosophy and was then sent to Urbaiana University in Rome for theological studies. He ministered in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia for three years and upon returning to Toronto worked in various parishes. Fr. Turrone is currently the Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Toronto, and a Benedictine Oblate novice with Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

  • Here is a mini-map that I created showing the major intersection where you can hear Fr. Peter’s talk on February 1st.

    • NOTE:

      • Bathurst Station is NORTH of Bloor Street.

      • See the map below to find the RED PIN for St. Peter’s Church located down the street from the Bathurst TTC stop [see the red square].

      • If you want to take a Taxi or “app car” from UNION or another station, and if it is snowing, you can always decide to use the ttc.ca. Click this link to plan your route from your starting address.

  • If you are trekking into Toronto from Kitckener-Waterloo, Hamilton, Grimsby, Niagara, St. Catherines, Guelph, Oakville, Aldershot, Mississauga, Pickering, Stratford, London, etc. there is the option of arriving by Go Train or Go Bus to Union Station, especially if it is snowing. Bookmark this route planner: https://www.gotransit.com/en/see-schedules.

  • Many people, even locals, get confused about the Presto Card, which is an option to use and load if you are planning to travel around Toronto. The Presto Card can be used on the Go Train / the Go Bus and the TTC. See this link to read how-to-use this card (ahead of time) and for further details: https://www.prestocard.ca/en/about/get-a-presto-card
